Lavender Lemonade

I’m convinced that lavender lemonade is the antidote to sweltering hot days. It’s refreshing and sweet (but not overly so) with a nuanced flavor that makes it feel elegant and slightly fancy. Translation – it’s perfect for brunches, parties and gatherings with friends because it’s sure to impress.

My mom has big lavender plants in her yard and a waft of their lovely smell just soothes and relaxes my mood. It’s the magical power of lavender.

Not only is lavender a beautiful, fragrant plant with vibrant purple blossoms, but it’s a delicious herb to use in cooking that adds a floral flavor with hints of lemon and citrus. Which means it pairs beautifully with anything lemon. So let’s whip up some lavender lemonade!

Lavender Lemonade Ingredients

Good news, there’s just a handful ingredients in this recipe and it’s super easy to make. Here’s what you need:

Lemon Juice: Always use freshly squeezed lemons for the freshest flavor. Meyer lemons are preferred if you can find them as they’re naturally sweeter.Honey: Ditch the processed white sugar normally found in lemonade for honey! It’s sweet, naturally floral and pairs perfectly with the lavender. Alternatively, you could use maple syrup.Dried Lavender Flowers: You can find dried lavender flowers for culinary use in the spice aisle of your market. Use those for making the infused simple syrup. But don’t forget fresh lavender flowers for garnish!Water: You’ll need water to mix with the honey for the simple syrup, then you’ll need additional cold water to fill your pitcher.Ice: Don’t forget the ice to chill the lemonade for that uber refreshing sip.

How to Make Lavender Lemonade

It takes about 30 minutes to make this recipe and most of that time is spent simmering and infusing the lavender flavor in the simple syrup.

Juice your lemons until you have about a cup of fresh lemon juice and add them to a pitcher. I love my little stainless steel juicer for this taskCombine 2 cups of the water, honey and dried lavender in a small pot over medium heat. Stir until the honey dissolves, then turn off the heat and let it infuse for 30 minutes.Strain the lavender simple syrup mixture through a fine mesh sieve into the pitcher along with the lemon juice. Then stir together and voila, lavender lemonade.Add ice and fresh slices of lemon to your pitcher to pretty it up.Serve over ice and garnish with fresh lavender flowers.

What Kind of Lavender Can You Cook With?

For this recipe, I recommend using dried culinary lavender flowers. All varieties of lavender are edible, but most of what you’ll find in the store comes from English Lavender or Provence Lavender.

If you grow your own lavender, you can certainly dry it and use it in this recipe. Just make sure that it hasn’t been sprayed with any pesticides.

Lavender lemonade is a refreshing spin on your classic lemonade recipe infused with a lavender honey simple syrup. Make a batch, chill and enjoy on a hot spring and summer day!


1 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice , Meyer lemons are preferred 4 cups water, divided1 cup honey , or maple syrup / other sweeteners 1 tablespoon dried lavender flowers ice lemon slices and fresh lavender flowers, for garnish


Add 2 cups of water, the honey, and dried lavender to a small pot. Bring to a simmer over medium heat and stir to dissolve the honey. Once the honey is dissolved, turn off the heat and let the mixture infuse for 30 minutes. While you’re waiting for the mixture to infuse, pour the lemon juice into a pitcher. Strain the lavender mixture through a fine mesh sieve into the pitcher with the lemon juice.Pour 2 cups of cold water (or more if desired) into the pitcher and stir together. Add ice and lemon slices.To serve, pour the lavender lemonade into glasses with ice and garnish with fresh lavender blossoms.
